Discover one of the most beautiful areas in Aargau
Nestled in the fertile and lovely river landscape of the Aare valley, Schinznach lies 350 meters above sea level between the towns of Aarau and Brugg in the canton of Aargau. Just a few kilometers downstream, the Aare, which comes from the Bernese Oberland, joins the Reuss, which has its source in central Switzerland. A little further down, the Limmat flows into it, which is called the Linth before flowing through Lake Zurich and has its source in the Glarus Alps. Located at the foot of the Wülpelsberg, which is crowned by Habsburg Castle, Bad Schinznach is surrounded by wooded hills and mountains. Vines are cultivated in some areas, such as the Schenkenbergtal, the most important wine-growing area in the region. With its scenic attractions, picturesque villages, beautiful old towns and many other sights, the region is considered one of the most beautiful in Aargau. The many architectural monuments such as castles and ruins are of great historical and cultural importance. Exercise and relaxation strengthen body and mind – all the more so against the magnificent natural backdrop offered by Bad Schinznach and Aargau. Discover the surrounding area on foot or by bike on the signposted paths and routes. We also have a direct bus connection with its own bus stop.
Hiking trails
Beautiful hiking trails along and away from the Aare invite you to take long walks in Aargau. Go on a discovery tour in a charming landscape that will enchant you. The exercise in the fresh air and the visual impressions will do your body and soul good.
Geo-path
The Aargau Geo Trail is an 11 km circular hiking trail that also passes through Schinznach-Bad. At 23 signposted information stations, you can learn interesting facts about the geology, ecology and history of the region.
Bözberg
The Bözberg is a Jura pass crossing on the Zurich-Basel route. The small plateau between the Aaretal and Fricktal valleys is ideal for walks through woods and meadows, past the lime tree of Linn.
Aargau Seetal
The Aargau Seetal has a lot to offer with Lake Hallwil and Switzerland’s moated castle. The river is dammed up below Klingnau. The nature reserve is a paradise for many species of waterfowl.
Locks
Hardly any other region is blessed with more historical excursion destinations than the Aare Valley. Numerous well-preserved castles and fortresses with a glorious past, as well as many ruins, are enthroned high above the river. Why not take an educational and exciting journey through time?
Habsburg Castle
Situated on the mountain ridge directly above Schinznach-Bad, the former ancestral castle of the Habsburgs now offers a well-kept restaurant and, in fine weather, a magnificent view of the Aare Valley and the Bernese Alps.
Wildegg Castle
The castle houses a collection from the National Museum. The castle park and rare vegetables, berries, herbs and flowers, which are cultivated in the vegetable garden by the Pro Speci Rara organization, invite you to linger.
Lenzburg Castle
Lenzburg Castle is one of the most historic castles in Switzerland. Among other things, it houses a museum (with changing exhibitions) and a cultural institution of the Canton of Aargau.
Cities
The Aare Valley and the surrounding area are not only full of natural beauty. Within easy reach of Bad Schinznach are historic towns and sites and picturesque villages that are definitely worth a visit for their sights.
Brugg
The regional center bears its name for good reason. For a long time, the Aare crossing was the only bridge between Aarau and the mouth of the Rhine at Koblenz. The Hofstatt bears witness to the once important traffic point.
Windisch
The village lies on the headland bordered by the rivers Aare and Reuss. This is where the Romans once built the Vindonissa legionary camp. The amphitheater surrounded by tall poplars provides a magnificent backdrop.
Aarau
The capital of the canton of Aargau is known for its beautiful old town with its painted gables. Patrician houses and villas at the entrance to the town bear witness to its brief period as the federal capital (early 19th century).
